KISS Cadillac Homecoming 40th Anniversary Celebration October 9-10

In October of 1975, Cadillac High School hosted an event that attained world wide acclaim as one of the most renowned stories in Rock and Roll lore.  During that homecoming week, KISS came to Cadillac and a legend was created. For forty years, the KISS Cadillac story has been retold in film, on videos, online, in magazines and newspapers, and twice as a feature on ESPN.
To mark the historic anniversary of that visit, Cadillac will host the KISS Cadillac Homecoming 40th Anniversary Celebration on October 9-10, 2015. All net proceeds from the weekend will go to the Cadillac Viking Athletics Boosters and Cadillac Viking Band Boosters.
The story began in 1974 when the Cadillac Viking football team lost its first two games.  Head Coach Dave Brines and Assistant Coach Jim Neff decided to play the music of KISS before games to change the attitude of the team.  With KISS as its inspiration the team won the next seven games.
A bond between KISS, Cadillac, and CHS was forged.  The result was KISS coming to CHS in 1975 to play a homecoming concert in the gym, participate in in the homecoming parade, receive the key to the City of Cadillac, and depart via helicopter from the football field. The 1975 Vikings capped off the KISS visit by winning the homecoming game and the Class of 1976 became forever known as the “KISS Class.”
This year's KISS Cadillac Homecoming 40th Anniversary Celebration will re-create the excitement of the KISS experience. One highlight will be a concert in the gym by the World's Best KISS Tribute Band, Mr. Speed. This full blast tribute to KISS will feature a giant KISS sign, big sound, a wall of amps, lights, special effects, lighted staircases, a confetti snow storm and more. The family-friendly show is for all ages and will be on Saturday, October 10, from 2-4 PM. Tickets are $10 at or at the Cadillac Area Visitors Bureau in downtown Cadillac. Concert attendees will also have an opportunity to get a limited edition KISS Cadillac T-shirt.
The other major event at the Celebration will be the unveiling of a permanent KISS Cadillac monument at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The monument will recognize the historical significance of the 1975 KISS visit, pay homage to the 1974 and 1975 Viking football teams, and serve a  touchstone to attract future visitors to Cadillac.
