Beginning this year under new direction, Cadillac Area Public Schools and redesigned our approach to district school improvement. Although there are compliance reports our district is still responsible for, we have made the decision to utilize our time differently. CAPS has three goals we are working toward in 2020: Excellence in Teaching and Learning, Improved Collaboration and Communication and Efficient Systems and Operations. There are specific strategies and outcomes for each of these goals so that we can monitor our progress.
The District School Improvement meeting now focuses on one specific area of improvement; for example, last month we invited business partners and leaders of agencies in which we currently collaborate.
We discussed strengths and weaknesses of CAPS and then we completed a program evaluation form. This will help us to better understand our partnerships, their impact on our students and whether or not we need to make any changes in the future.
These meetings also serve as an opportunity to share the districts’ successes and strategies to go from good to great. If you would like to attend a district school improvement meeting, our next focus group will be parents and is scheduled for March 21, 2016. Please contact my office if you are interested in attenting.
Overall, we will continue to focus on communication and collaboration.
